Cultural Difference of Time --October 15--Week 5

I learned 2 new words this week....

Monochronic and Polychronic

According to a Wikipedia article...

"A monochronic time system means that things are done one at a time and time is segmented into small precise units. Under this system, time is scheduled, arranged, and managed.  ("Time Sense: Polychronicity and Monochronicity" January 21, 2018. Retrieved 2018-01-21.)

A polychronic time system is a system where several things can be done at once, and wider view of time is exhibited and time is perceived in large fluid sections.[4] Examples of polychronic behaviors include typing while answering telephones, or taking notes while participating in meetings. (Brett, Martin AS; Gnoth, Juergen; Strong, Carol (2009). Journal of Advertising. pp. 5–20.)

My questions are..... Is monochronic/polychronic time a learned behavior?  Is it hard to change?  Can someone from a polychronic culture be more monochronic?   How do we know what a person is?

My Example......I have a cousin that HAS to be 10 minutes early to everything.  She has to make sure seats are saved at a movie theater. While on the other hand I have a dear friend that cannot be early to anything. She goes with the flow... They are both from the United States.

I found this side-by-side comparison of the two types....
