Attributional Tendencies.... October 23...Week 06

For every action there is a reaction.  When a student wins the spelling be, they may give all the credit to a parent that has helped them study or a wonderful teacher.  Or the student might say they are just that smart.  How we take credit for something good or blame someone for the bad that has happened is called Attributional Process.  We are drawing conclusions on why it has happened.

While teaching our students, we may want to take into consideration the cultural aspect of attributional tendencies.  My days substitute teaching in a title one school I would think the kids just couldn't take responsibility for their own actions.  It was external attribution and never internal.  I wonder now if it was cultural.  This is something I'm not sure I would see in my students.  My question is.... which one do we want our students to have?  How do we help them have both a good dose of internal and external attributions?
