I grew up in a small town in central Utah. The town was nestled in-between two mountain ranges and I had plenty of open space to see. We had more turkeys in the town than people. I enjoyed keeping my bubble around me and didn't venture off to far. The first experience to Disney made my head rush. So many people. I can see now that growing up in a small town culture made crowds very uncomfortable to me. In the article mentioned above it says that strangers moving into our personal spaces the "heart pumps faster, adrenalin pours into the bloodstream, and blood is pumped to the brain and the muscles as physical preparations for a possible fight or flight situation".
I can see now that culture had a part in my aversion to large crowds..... so tell me, are you a Disneyland fan?

Hilarious! I haven't been to Disneyland, but like you that article made me understand why I had a hard time living in one of the world's most densely populated cities and am now infinitely happier in a smaller city.
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteI haven’t been to Disneyland, but I have been to Mexico City. I grow up in a small city, so I can be around a considerable amount of people, however, when that limit is exceeded I feel the same you feel at Disneyland. For that reason, anytime I go to Mexico City I try to avoid crowded places.
